Lagos Monarch's Security Guard Arrested for Assaulting Pregnant Woman, Leading to Miscarriage

The Lagos State Police Command confirmed the arrest of a suspect involved in the assault of a pregnant woman and traditional worshipper, Iya Osun Agbebi Adekunle Salawe, along with her co-traditionalists.

The suspects, allegedly working as security guards for Oba Babatunde Saliu, the monarch of the Oworonshoki kingdom, reportedly beat the woman into a coma on Sunday under the orders of Oba Babatunde Saliu.

Police spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest, stating that efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects.

Iya Osun's husband, Akogun Adewale Adekunle, reported that the monarch had been sending emissaries, including palace chiefs, to plead with him.

Adekunle acknowledged the arrest of one suspect but noted that the police are hesitant to arrest the monarch, who allegedly ordered the attack.

Adekunle revealed that his wife was taken to Gbagada General Hospital and later transferred to Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in Ikeja, where she remains unconscious.

Despite attempts by Oba Babatunde Saliu to intervene and cover medical expenses, Adekunle insisted on paying the bills himself, seeking justice instead.

He called on the Lagos State Commissioner and the Inspector General of Police to investigate the matter urgently.
