BREAKING! One Confirmed Dead, Many Injured In Ogun State

One person has been reportedly killed and many others injured when armed gunmen attacked Olorunda village near Atan along Idiroko Expressway in Ogun State on Tuesday evening. 

The village head, Chief Atanda Muraina, narrowly escaped an attack on his house.

Police have arrested ten members of the gang and recovered weapons, including two guns and assorted ammunition. 

Some suspects were found hiding in the ceilings of houses, inside a freezer at a beer parlor, and in a salon.

Residents reported that about one hundred armed men shot indiscriminately, injuring many villagers. 

Chief Muraina said they received news of the attack while in court and reported it to the Atan Divisional Police Station.

 Reinforcements from multiple police divisions eventually quelled the attack.The attack followed a recent claim by armed men that they had won a court judgment to take possession of the land, though they were not accompanied by court officials or police.

 The village head called on higher authorities to protect residents from further attacks, asserting that the assailants are forcefully seizing land in the area. 

Another village elder noted that the court had ordered both parties to maintain the status quo.

Attempts to contact the Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
