JUST IN:WAEC Gives Another Update Amid Proposed Strike

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has warned that the indefinite strike called by organised labour over minimum wage will jeopardize students sitting for the ongoing West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

WAEC employees in Nigeria, who are members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), are set to participate in the strike starting on Monday.

Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of National Office of WAEC, expressed concern that the strike may disrupt examinations for subjects such as Physics, Economics, Government, and Civic Education, scheduled from June 3 to June 7 in Nigeria and some West African countries.

Dangut stated WAEC’s shared concerns with the organised labour and all Nigerian workers.

 He stated the unions’ historical partnership with WAEC in fulfilling its mandate and urged them to consider the impact of the strike on the ongoing examinations, which began on April 30 and are set to conclude on June 24.

Dangut appealed to all stakeholders and unions to cooperate to ensure the examinations proceed smoothly and without disruption, stressing WAEC’s commitment to excellence and service to the Nigerian people.
