In a post on X, Clinton implied that democracy is at stake in the upcoming presidential election, where Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, is challenging incumbent President Joe Biden.
"Eighty years ago today, thousands of brave Americans fought to protect democracy on the shores of Normandy,"
Clinton wrote. "This November, all we have to do is vote."
Clinton's post suggested that Trump represents a threat to democracy similar to that posed by Nazi Germany during World War II.
The D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944, marked a pivotal moment in the war, leading to the liberation of Europe from Nazi control.
Clinton's implication is that Trump's potential return to the presidency would endanger democratic principles.
This is not the first time Clinton has drawn parallels between Trump and Hitler.
In a May 21 post on X, she referred to Trump as "Grifter Hitler" and shared an article about a video on Trump's Truth Social account that referenced a "unified Reich" in hypothetical headlines if Trump were to win the election.
The Trump campaign stated that the video was reposted by a staffer who had not noticed the reference.
A spokesperson for Clinton did not respond to requests for comment.
Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung responded by dismissing Clinton's remarks and attacking her record, particularly her handling of the Benghazi incident.
He stated, "Nobody takes Hillary seriously because it's clear she is beclowning herself in order to stay relevant after President Trump crushed her in 2016."
Trump defeated Clinton in the 2016 presidential election, despite Clinton winning the popular vote.
Democrats, including President Biden, have consistently portrayed Trump as a threat to democracy since the January 6 riots at the U.S. Capitol.
They have also criticized Republican efforts to implement voter ID laws and other election regulations, arguing that these measures disenfranchise minorities.
In recent polls, voters have indicated greater trust in Biden over Trump regarding election integrity and protecting democracy, though Trump leads on issues such as immigration, the economy, foreign policy, and crime.
