Trans Woman Remanded Over Murder Of Husband

A 70-year-old trans woman has appeared in court accused of murdering her husband with a samurai sword. 

Joanna Rowland-Stuart, a retired LGBT rights worker, was charged with killing her husband, Andrew Rowland-Stuart, at their Brighton flat.

The incident occurred on Monday evening at their 15th-floor flat on Lavender Street in the Kemptown area of the city.

 Emergency services pronounced Mr. Rowland-Stuart dead at the scene. 

Mrs. Rowland-Stuart, who is deaf, confirmed her name through a sign language interpreter. 

She has been remanded in custody to appear in Crown Court next week.

Detective Chief Inspector Alex Campbell from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team stated that the investigation is ongoing and urged the public to come forward with any information.

A trans woman is an individual who was assigned male at birth but identifies and lives as a woman. 

Trans women may undergo medical treatments such as hormone therapy or surgeries, but not all choose to do so.

 Being transgender is about gender identity, which is a deeply felt sense of being male, female, or something else, and may not necessarily align with the sex assigned at birth.
