Just In: FG Bans Foreign Syringes In Nigeria

The Federal Government has instructed all Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) and Medical Directors (MDs) of Federal Tertiary Hospitals to exclusively procure needles and syringes from NAFDAC-approved local manufacturers. 

This directive, outlined in a circular signed by the Minister of State for Health, Dr. Tunji Alausa, aims to support domestic production and protect the country’s manufacturing sector from foreign competition. 

Additionally, the circular mandates NAFDAC to cease issuing licenses for the importation of foreign-made needles and syringes.

 Dr. Alausa disclosed the detrimental impact of importing substandard goods on local pharmaceutical industries, noting that out of nine companies producing needles and syringes eight years ago, six have closed down due to market saturation with inferior products.
