UNDISCLOSED Reasons On How Reopening Border Would Resolve Most Talked About Issues In Nigeria

The Federal Government has been urged to reopen Nigeria’s borders to allow for the legal importation of food items, a move seen as critical to combating hunger and stabilizing market prices.

 This recommendation was made by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) during a recent advocacy meeting with traditional leaders and stakeholders at the Emir of Bauchi's palace.

The FCCPC spoke on its dedication to promoting fair competition, safeguarding consumers, and fostering a well-regulated marketplace.

 Acting Executive Chairman Adamu Abdullahi stated the commission's ongoing efforts to raise public awareness about consumer rights and to monitor market prices to prevent exploitation by business owners.

During the meeting, Abdullahi stressed the importance of reopening borders to facilitate the importation of food, which he believes would help stabilize prices and ensure consumers get value for their money. 

He also mentioned that the FCCPC is committed to ensuring that substandard products are either repaired, replaced, or refunded.

The Emir of Bauchi, Dr. Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, voiced concerns overthe rising prices of food items, which he said are causing significant hardship for citizens.

 Represented by the District Head of Lame, Alh Yakubu Aliyu Lame, the Emir urged the Federal Government to take swift action to reduce food prices.

Other stakeholders, including district heads, Bauchi CAN Chairman Abraham Damina, and former Secretary of the Bauchi State Shari’a Commission, Ustaz Tijjani Sa’id, also pledged to support the FCCPC's initiatives and educate the public about their rights and consumer protection measures.
