JUST IN: Nigerian Police Probe Zenith Bank Staff in Connection to Armed Robbery

A 55-year-old Russian woman, Angelina Gold, reported being robbed of $3,500 on June 14, shortly after withdrawing the money from a Zenith Bank branch in Lagos.

Gold suspects that bank employees might have provided information to the robber, who shot her in the foot at her compound in GRA Ikeja.

Gold recounted that after collecting the money, she and her daughter visited nearby supermarkets.

They noticed a man following them, who later confronted Gold in her compound, demanded the money, and shot her when she hesitated.

The robbery occurred within three hours of her bank visit, raising suspicions of insider involvement.

She criticized the bank for openly handling dollar transactions, which she believes could attract robbers.

Gold reported the incident to the police, who provided escorts and have detained the security guards at her residence for questioning.

The police have also reached out to the bank staff involved in the transaction.

Zenith Bank's corporate communications stated that they would address the complaint after the Sallah holidays.

Gold expressed frustration with the situation, stating the need for better security measures in banks to prevent such incidents.
