EFCC Denies Non-Prosecution Deal with Ex-Accountant General in Fraud Case

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has denied promising former Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, that he would not be prosecuted in exchange for information on his N109 billion corruption case.

Abdulhamid Isa Muri, an EFCC official from the Kano office, testified in an FCT High Court, refuting Idris's claim of a non-prosecution promise. 

Muri, led by prosecuting counsel Oluwaleke Atolagbe, stated that Idris's statement was given voluntarily and that he was never detained in Kano.

Idris, re-arraigned on October 27, 2022, faces 13 counts of alleged misappropriation of N109bn, along with Olusegun Akindele, Mohammed Usman, and Gezawa Commodity Market and Exchange Limited.

 Justice Yusuf Halilu has set October 29 for Idris to begin his defense.
